These are some of the best handicrafts you will find anywhere in the world! They are authentic, beautiful, well-crafted, durable and reasonably priced. You could pay 3 to 4 times –or more– for similar items found on other websites or through a local retailer than what you will pay on BolgaBaskets.biz.
Your Purchases Help Fight Poverty
When you buy an item from BolgaBaskets.biz, you are directly helping the woman who wove your basket or made your beads, to pay for necessary items such as food, cooking utensils, school uniforms or school fees for their children. If you pay $12 US dollars for a basket, it equals 108,240.00 Ghana Cedis - depending on the exchange rate. What can 108,240.00 buy? Here's a list:
- Pay for the National Health Insurance of one person for one year, and all the medical needs will be catered for the whole year; or
- Pay for the electricity and water bills for a family of 3 for one month; or
- Buy meals for 9 people from a local restaurants called 'Chop Bars'; or
- Buy a 50-kilogram bag of maize during the harvesting period to feed a family of 4 for 3 months; or
- Buy school uniforms for 4 children
Ordering, Payment and Shipping
Since our ordering and shipping processes are somewhat different that what you might have experienced before, we will explain here how our process works.
When you place an order, the order is first sent to Christine in the U.S. to process the payments. Christine then notifies Pat in Ghana of a new order, if it was paid for using PayPal or if we're waiting on payment to be sent through the United States mail.
If the order is paid for with PayPal, the order can be shipped immediately, as soon as the items are ready.
If the order is paid for using a personal check or money order, the order will be prepared, but will not be shipped until the funds have cleared.
The reason the funds are sent to Christine in the U.S. rather than to Pat in Ghana, is that PayPal isn't available in Africa. Personal checks and money orders can take months to clear, and the postal process can take a few weeks to send even a letter. Therefore, your orders are shipped before Pat even recieves any money in Ghana providing all funds are recieved by Christine.
We can't stress enough: shipping can take up to 6 weeks as the baskets are shipped directly from West Africa. We do not have a warehouse in the U.S. Please be patient, and contact us if your order hasn't arrived after 6 weeks. |
